01 / The brief

Find the community story behind the performance.

The film follows a Chinese chamber choir in Dublin. Rather than treating the choir only as a performance subject, the documentary explores how rehearsals, personal experiences and shared music connect people with community and belonging.

02 / My contribution

Co-directing with clear individual responsibilities.

  • Developed the initial script and narrative structure.
  • Contributed to filming and the interview-led production.
  • Guided creative development and editing through feedback to the co-director.

Zelong Jin led choir communication and shoot coordination, and handled editing, colour and subtitles. Creative direction and key production decisions were discussed together. This is a shared documentary credit.

03 / Strategy & execution

Let people and real locations shape the film.

Interview structure

Use members’ experiences to connect individual stories with the choir’s wider community role. Questions were adapted to the person being interviewed.

Production constraints

Work around rehearsal and performance schedules, limited space and existing light, while avoiding unnecessary disruption to the choir.

Material selection

Use narrative feedback to select moments that support the theme and the pace of a 15-minute film.
